Hamlin Fistula UK is a registered UK charity dedicated to the treatment and prevention of childbirth injuries in Ethiopia.
After hearing about the impact of obstetric fistula in Ethiopia from Dr Catherine Hamlin at Birmingham University, Harold Burnett and Professor Hugh Maclaren established Hamlin Fistula UK to raise funds and awareness to support the first Fistula hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and help women in need.
The Challenge
The organisation operates six hospitals, a college of midwives, and a rehabilitation centre across the country. To deliver quality care and education to thousands of women and girls, Hamlin Fistula UK needed reliable and efficient IT solutions that could support their operations and communication in remote and challenging environments.
The Solution
We partnered with Hamlin Fistula UK to provide them with a comprehensive IT kit for one of their hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The kit included laptops and desktop PCs from Lenovo and Dell, which were customised with more powerful components to handle the demands of the hospital staff.
We also supplied servers and additional hardware, such as printers, monitors, tablets, and interactive whiteboards, to facilitate data management, documentation, training, and collaboration. We ensured that the IT equipment was delivered safely and securely to Ethiopia, and we provided ongoing technical support and maintenance to the organisation.
The Result
By providing our IT solutions to Hamlin Fistula UK, we helped them improve their capacity and efficiency in delivering life-changing services to women and girls affected by obstetric fistula. The IT kit enabled the hospital staff to access and share information, communicate with other facilities, and enhance their skills and knowledge.
The IT kit also improved the patient experience, as they could benefit from digital tools and resources that enhanced their recovery and empowerment.
