Automatic and transparent movement of data between production and secondary storage: Rules are created to move data between storage tiers so data is stored on the most appropriate media. Migration is automatic and policy driven recalls are automatic and on demand. The file grooming and storage management burden on IT is significantly reduced.
Configurable to store single or multiple copies of files for increasing resiliency: It is simple to create one, two or more copies of archived files. This allows copies to be on different storage media such as disk and tape to benefit from the recall performance of disk and the long-term durability of tape. The copies can also be physically remote for offsite disaster protection
Interoperability with Anti-Virus software: File System Extender interoperates with a wide range of Ant-Virus software from manufacturers such as McAfee, Symantec, Sophos, or Trend Micro.
Supports compliance initiatives in the MTO it said Agility for this one: Enables rapid response to changing compliance initiatives, discovery requests, service requirements and business growth. Meets the non-tamperability requirement by migrating data into an LTO3 WORM device. Allows end users to retrieve information themselves
Multiple, secondary-tier media types supported: Disks allow the fastest access to archived files. Tape technology such as HP StorageWorks Ultrium allows a very dense archive, and provides the lowest cost medium for long-term retention and off-site storage.
Powerful features that are simple to manage: FSE has a rich set of rules that can be tuned to create migration, release and recall policies that contain the business requirements for data. Management is through a local or remote management console with a graphical user interface (GUI) or via a command line (CLI).
Never release and file expiration options: The rich set of rules for creating policies includes rules to never release specified files to the archive as well as rules to expire (delete) files after a specified time. These rules are created using user configurable file matching patterns.
File system restore and recovery options: File System Extender has both restore and recovery options for the archived data in case of hardware or software failure without the need for a backup and recovery product.
Support for multiple archives: FSE supports multiple logical archives per installation. This allows different file movement policies and secondary storage media per application or department by allocating each a different logical archive and has the benefit of providing physical separation of archive data from different applications and departments.
Seamless integration within HP storage family: File System Extended provides full compatibility with HP-based storage, tape libraries, HP Proliant server and is fully supported by HP Service
