July 2026 Update

What’s New?

Memory prices are still climbing

Gartner’s February forecast put global PC prices up around 17% by the end of 2026 compared with 2025, driven by a combined DRAM and SSD price surge of roughly 130%.

Five months on, TrendForce’s 3 July outlook still has DRAM contract prices rising 13 to 18% in Q3 and NAND up 10 to 15%, with retail notebook prices expected to rise across the board as higher-cost components work through inventory.

What that changes for anyone planning a refresh:

Memory is moving from around 16% of a PC’s bill of materials to roughly 23%, so the devices where memory is the largest share of build cost, entry-level and mid-range business laptops, are where this lands first.

Gartner expects the sub $500 segment to disappear entirely by 2028.

The instinct is to wait.

Gartner already sees it happening, forecasting business PC lifespans extending by around 15% this year. But nothing in the current forecasts points to prices settling.

But if a refresh in your plan was deferred on cost grounds six months ago, the case for revisiting it is stronger now than it was then.
