VMware VM Backup

You can back up VMware VMs on schedule or ad hoc, both locally over LAN and offsite over (a slow) WAN. You can save up to 1,000 recovery points per VM and - using the Grandfather-Father-Son (GFS) retention scheme - rotate them on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis.

VMware VM replication

VM replication creates and maintains an identical copy of the source VM on a target host. You can replicate live VMs on schedule or ad hoc locally and offsite and simply power them on in case the source VM is lost or damaged. You can even save up to 30 recovery points per replica.

Applications and databases support

NAKIVO Backup & Replication supports Exchange, Active Directory, MS SQL, Oracle, and other applications and databases running inside VMs that you back up and replicate. Using the Application-Aware mode, the product ensures that application and database data is always consistent.

Automated VM protection

You can ensure that important VMs are always backed up and replicated by protecting VMware containers such as resource pools, folders, hosts, clusters, and so on. This way VMs that are created in or moved to the protected container are automatically added to your job.

Flash VM Boot

Flash VM Boot enables you to run (boot) VMs directly from compressed and deduplicated VM backups. This way you can recover your VMs within seconds, without waiting for full restore from backup files. Using Flash VM Boot you can also verify VM backups, run disaster recovery tests, access files and application objects of any application on any OS, test system updates and application patches, and so on.

Instant File Recovery

You can instantly recover files and folders directly from compressed and deduplicated backups of Windows-based and Linux-based VMs. File recovery works over LAN and WAN: even if your backup repository is located offsite a thousand miles away, the recovery is done within seconds.

Instant Object Recovery

With NAKIVO Backup & Replication, you can instantly recover application objects directly from compressed and deduplicated VMware VM backups, without the need to recover an entire VM first. This feature works out of the-box and does not require installing agents, preparing a lab environment, or creating a special type of backup.

Full VM Recovery from VM Backup

If a backed up VM is accidentally damaged or deleted, you can recover the full VM from the backup in just a few clicks. The entire VM will be recovered in exactly the same state as it was during the backup and will appear on the ESXi you selected for recovery - there's no need to manually recreate the VM, install an OS, and then restore data.

Disaster Recovery with VM Replicas

Because VM replication creates an identical copy of source VMs, recovering from a disaster is as simple as powering on the replicated VMs. If a source VM has been damaged and then replicated, you can roll back the replica VM to a previous recovery point.

Global data deduplication

NAKIVO Backup & Replication automatically deduplicates backed up data at the block level across entire backup repository, and saves only unique blocks of data. This dramatically reduces backup size. Learn more

Efficient data compression

After data deduplication, the product automatically compresses each block of data so it occupies even less storage space in a backup repository.

Network acceleration

Data compression and traffic reduction techniques enables the product to reduce network traffic by 50% on average, thus decreasing the network load and speeding up backup and replication times by 2X.

Multi-threading

NAKIVO Backup & Replication can run dozens of backup, replication, and recovery jobs simultaneously, which speeds up data processing and shortens the time windows allocated to data protection.

Direct SAN support

The product supports fiber-channel and iSCSI SANs, enabling to offload production network and significantly increase the speed of backup and replication.

Forever-incremental jobs

After the initial backup and replication (which can also be done via a removable media), all jobs are forever-incremental and do not require running periodic full backup or replication. This reduces backup windows and network load. In addition, the product uses VMware's Changed Block Tracking technology to quickly identify data blocks that have changed since the last job run.

Fast and easy deployment

NAKIVO Backup & Replication is purely agentless and can be fully installed and configured on a Windows or Linux OS in less time than it takes to drink a cup of coffee. Pre-configured VAs are also available for a streamlined deployment.
