At its core, HPE NNMi software includes an innovative n-tier architecture composed of leading-edge technologies such as Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (Ajax); Web services; Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE); and an embedded industry-standard relational database management system (RDBMS). HPE NNMi software is a multi-threaded application that takes advantage of multiple and multi-core central processing units (CPUs). It offers the performance of a thick client and the universal access benefits of a Web application. Spiral discovery enables accurate network performance monitoring. HPE NNMi software incorporates a state-of-the-art continuous spiral discovery process. This process uses fast node finding combined with an iterative multi-pass process for in-depth device configuration and connectivity discovery. This discovery process enables accurate performance monitoring for other HPE NNMi management components such as root cause analysis (RCA).

Event pipeline and causal engine provide deterministic root cause analysis

HPE NNMi software includes modules for automated event correlation and RCA. The module for event correlation is called the event pipeline. The event pipeline contains multiple, efficient processes that act on the event stream to correlate and condition events for the causal engine. The causal engine is a virtual machine that offers continuous analysis of conditions of monitored objects. It relies on the continuous spiral discovery process, so it can adapt to topology changes. Ultimately, the causal engine provides automated and deterministic RCA (versus probabilistic RCA) to reduce MTTR and increase operator efficiency, while allowing you to define your relevant and service-impacting events.
